Cancer rules the 2nd House

In the LEO - 1st House system, CANCER and the 2nd House are both ruled by the Moon. A WATER Sign is ruler of 2nd House not an EARTH Sign.

In the ARIES 1st House system the 2nd House is related to TAURUS, an EARTH Sign.

The 2nd House is the house of Money and CANCER fits that profile much better than TAURUS does. Money flows like water. Money is not fixed in one place like land, Money moves around constantly. Land is permanently attached to one place on the planet and cannot move, making it subject to local value considerations. TAURUS stands for property and estates which are infinitely less liquid than Money, both physically and metaphysically. Sometimes in a financial crunch it is necessary to take a loss on property just to get ride of it. Also property taxes are always levied on land regardless of it's market value.

Money is just so much more like WATER-CANCER than like EARTH-TAURUS.

CANCER is indicated to represent "food" and Individual Survival back at the beginning of this site and it does. Money is just a substitute for "food". "Food" is quite heavy and it usually spoils easily. On the other hand Money is light, especially paper money in large denominations, and Money never spoils.

CANCER and TAURUS are the two wealthiest Signs of the ZODIAC according to Who's Who in banking but CANCER heads the list. The wealth accumulation attached to both signs may lead to much of the confusion between the nature of these two Houses. The 4th House in the LEO - 1st House system is ruled by TAURUS and TAURUS is of land and estates. CANCER and the 2nd House represent Money.

CANCER is the introvert and LEO is the extrovert. CANCER is shy, it stays hidden many times and has a different personality at home than it does in the outside world. CANCER may sometimes even plead poverty while it stuffs the mattress with bills. CANCER is always stashing away food and money for a rainy day. CANCER is not a lavish spender. Look at Ross Perot, a billionaire many times over and he drives a 20 year old car and lives in a relatively modest house not some palace. Some CANCERS have a persecution complex, "down deep" their afraid of starving to death and may think somebody is after them.
