The United Auto Workers struck GM last Monday but the strike only lasted 2 days. General Motors could ill afford to close it's plants as Toyota would quickly become the worlds largest car maker if the strike lasted more than a few days. Toyota already makes more money and is worth more.
You see: US auto makers are getting killed by the Japanese trio of Honda, Nissan and Toyota. Japanese cars out sell the US cars by a wide margin. The only thing keeping Ford, General Motors afloat is truck sales. Chrysler is in deep doodoo too. But that's all a scam according to some and it's a way for the American companies to eliminate their health care burden and lower the standard of living for the middle class.

The new 6th generation Toyota Camry is a high watermark in automobile evolution. It will be difficult for American Companies to recover from this blow.Trade Unions in England and the Europe Union regularly shut down industry and business in that part of the world. In Europe the Union Movement was and is stronger than the one that happened in the United States. The USA has stricter labor laws than Europe. "Right to Work" is another name for being anti-union. Being an agency shop works better and is fairer to workers than a closed shop. Mandating a minimum wage began in Australia and New Zealand and continues to be a big political issue in the US even today.
American workers put in more hours per week than their European counterparts as well as make less money per hour than Europe's wage earners.The Union movement needs to be rekindled in the United States. Dynamic leaders like John L Lewis Governor Al Smith and Charles Walgreen Sr. are missing today. American Unions need to change and start to follow the lead of the Culinary Workers here in Las Vegas. Everybody deserves a good job and a fit wage. In cash rich businesses like Casinos there is no excuse for not paying employees top dollar. The only moron who loses money in Casino business is Donald Trump. His Taj Mahal and other Casinos in Atlantic City have been bankrupt several times.
